It happens every time.
Whenever Facebook goes through even the smallest of changes, you see a collective grumbling on the status updates of your classmates, family and pretty much anyone else who you’re friends with on the social media site. So with the news that all Facebook users will be forced to switch to the new profile page design of Timeline, it’s understandable if you’re just a little bit annoyed about having to learn a new way to navigate your favorite site.
Despite the backlash, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has nothing but high hopes for the Timeline transition, with the goal of making your profile page show “the story of your life.” This will be done by making the events of your life displayed on the page in a summary format, instead of a vertical stream of comments and status updates. The format is similarly to a scrapbook, but instead of the beginning of your Facebook page being the date that you joined, it will now be the date of your birth. This is an encouragement for users to add major past events in their life.
Many are worried about Timeline making it easier for others to view their private information. But the new design won’t make anything accessible that hasn’t already been so in the past, and as always with Facebook changes, it’s good to go through your privacy settings, pictures, and friends to make sure you’re comfortable with everything your friends can see.
Ready or not, here Timeline comes.
