As I’m sure you’ve heard from everyone on Earth by now, musician M.I.A. flipped off the camera during her guest spot at the Madonna-thon aka the Super Bowl Halftime show. She apparently flashed the middle finger (along with a majority of her thigh) instead of the gunshot motion that she does to accompany the bleeped-out “I don’t give a s***” line in the football themed “Give Me All Your Luvin’” music video, which features M.I.A. along with Madonna and fellow Halftime performer Nicki Minaj.
NBC Sports released this statement:
“We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.”
Of course, this was the first “controversy” since the 2004 Super Bowl show featuring Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake where Miss Jackson’s wardrobe malfunctioned and JT had to act really surprised to see lady parts.
Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is. She flipped off the camera and it’s the end of the world because the halftime show is supposed to be “family friendly.”
ABC Family has been broadcasting “The Secret Life of American Teenagers” featuring unprotected sex, teen pregnancy and a bunch of other things I wouldn’t consider family friendly and the channel has family in the name. So I don’t see how showing her middle finger has the world in an uproar.
Also, I’d consider Madonna doing back bends and showing America what was under that warrior skirt was way more offensive that what M.I.A. did.
