Rutgers professor becomes overnight web star

February 10, 2012 · Posted By: Emily Kelley

Move over tutu wearing British girls: there’s a new Nicki Minaj enthusiast on the web.

Matthew Ferguson, or “Mattstache,” is an adjunct professor and assistant director of student life at Rutgers University and his video featuring Nicki Minaj’s “Turn Me On” has amassed over 300,000 views in less than 48 hours.

And for good reason, it’s hilarious and brilliant.

After having a big beard for five years, Ferguson was looking for an interesting way to shave it with the proper fanfare it deserved.

So, with the help of a longtime friend freelance filmmaker Brian Bennett ( who was the video’s executive producer and director), he videotaped himself in several stages of shaving while lip-syncing the pop hit “Turn Me On” by artists Nicki Minaj and David Guetta.

On Wednesday morning, he uploaded the video to YouTube, intending to make his friends laugh. He posted it to Facebook, sent out a few Tweets and didn’t expect more than a few hundred views.

After being posted to web hubs like Reddit, The Daily What and Buzzfeed and has been Facebooked and Tweeted all over the place, it now has 333,000 in the last 48 hours.

No word yet on whether Minaj has seen the video yet, but I think she’ll like it as much as the rest of us when she does.
